Craft Good Cheer

Last Thursday I attended the Craft Good Cheer event hosted by Paige from Bash Eco Events and Kelly from Yes, Please Design.  It was great to see and meet many new peeps but afterwards I realized how many people I missed!

Here are a couple pics courtesy of Holly’s Cakes and Kisses Photography (more pics here):

Moustaches were a must!  It was also great to meet Britt!  She’s the Bowie Bride and I have the pleasure of DOC’ing her wedding in July!  The bride that won the contest on The Broke Ass Bride’s site reached out to me once, then never again.  So, it’s funny that through Sara of this real wedding, I introduced myself to Britt because she wanted to feature her wedding too!  She gave me the dibs on featuring it and from then on I read about her on her blog.  Figuring the giveaway winner disappeared and Britt had no DOC I offered her my services.  So, I dubbed her the winner!  Next year I definitely want to giveaway my DOC package but I need to find a couple who is in need!  Any suggestions?

Thanks Paige and Kelly!

Bridesmaid Gifting

Hi y’all!

I finally climbed out from beneath my pile-o-books for the winter and realized that the holiday season is upon us! While I was attempting to BEGIN my holiday shopping by browsing my favorite site, ETSY, I started thinking about bridesmaid gifts. Here are some great finds for those of you who are already looking that special gift for your crew. You can find tons of unique, practical, inexpensive, and beautiful bridesmaid gifts that they’re sure to love. Try gifting something you want them to wear for your big day AND something that they’ll want to use again! Here are a few suggestions…
How about matching clutches for all your girls? Or a fabric flower that they can wear in alternating places…in the hair, on a ribbon belt around the waist, as a brooch, around the wrist? Mollusa is just the place for either! Take a look at these treasures…

Or earrings! You can get each girl a different pair, matching their own style, and still make sure that they all compliment each other. Check out these by Odalisca

A wrap for a cool night? While simple pashmina or shawl will do the trick for the bridesmaids, you might just want to splurge on yourself and rock one of these babies by Bonzie!

Happy shopping!

XOXO…

Engagement Season is NOW!

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while.  Inspired by a family member of mine, this has to have been one of the best engagements I’ve seen that was not my own!  Ha!

So boys listen up! (Girls, too!)

For Christmas or any other holiday where you exchange gifts, make sure you have the people that you want to be around during this special moment…like her parents, yours, siblings, etc.  Say you have around 12 people including yourself:

  • Purchase 10 gifts that don’t have to be expensive or gender biased; The 11th gift will have to be rigged and will have to go to your fiancee-to-be.
  • Place number 1-10 in a cup and have everyone choose one.  Leave #11th for last and sneakishly place it in the cup after everyone has chosen theirs for your fiancee-to-be to surprisingly get it!
  • Watch everyone open their gifts…waiiiiiit for it….until it’s your fiance-to-be’s turn!

In her/his gifts, there are a gazillion things you can place a ring into.  My story involves Cracker Jacks!  You know how they include a prize inside…perfect!

If you want to go another route, her ring can be set on one of these beautiful bowls from the ever-fab Paloma’s Nest on Etsy.

Really!  How awesome would that be?  Now go!  Come back with stories and pictures please, lol!  And if you want tips on how to get the special ring, my friend Lydia from Ever Ours has the greatest tips!

Modern Venues

I think nowadays beside trying to find a venue that is within a budget, more and more brides are using gallery spaces and industrial looking venues.  Something new and I love it!

Here are a couple I’ve found:

  1. Gallery 1018 – A bit on the smaller side, but definitely great urban feel.
  2. Smog Shoppe – This one has been around in the wedding blogosphere a lot already and is pretty amazing
  3. Box Eight Studios – I haven’t seen many weddings here but excited to see what the Bowie Bride has up her sleeve because she’s going to rock it in this venue!
  4. High Profile Productions – Wait til you see these pics!
The outside

The inside part where you hold the sit down dinner.  It’s a blank canvas right now so you can do whatever you please.

Again, think blank slate.  When we visited this venue there was a Buddha head fountain that made the atmosphere more eclectic.  This is the courtyard.  You can place the bar here, have a couple hookahs?  The lounge-y space. =)
Think, the sit down dinner is this big rectangle space.  The courtyard is a square.  There’s another square to make it all a perfect square and it has chandeliers.  The dance floor!
This space is really amazing!  Tami Brown from Celebrate! is holding Backstage Bridal here on February 28, 2010.  Here is a blurb on what it’s all about from the site.
