Inspiration Boards :: Cobalt Blue Part I

After our last wedding of the year, we’ve already started designing for a couple of our clients next year.  Our bride for this one is in love with cobalt blue so we’ve worked on a couple color schemes for them.  We’ve already got the feel since they want to have a modern affair with some traditional Mexican touches.

The first one is definitely more fun and bright than the second and it reminds me of LeslieAnn and Schuyler’s Hotel Maya wedding.  The second is more soft and romantic.  There’s two more.  Check back next week and leave all the feedback you can .  We always to love hear what our readers have to say!

Happy Friday!

Today is our last installment of Audrey from The Bella Bambino’s guest posts. So bittersweet and so thankful for you Audrey!  She gets personal again and as you read, you’ll realize this should be part of the script from the recent Bridesmaids movie!

MOH Confessions

The MOH. The Maid of Honor. The chief bridesmaid. The Bachelorette Party Organizer. The Bridal Shower Planner…. The one who is going to hold your dress up so you can pee… THAT’S ME!!! My cousin and best friend is getting married and true to the pact we made as wee tots to be each other’s MOH’s; I am to be her MOH.
This is a role that actually carries a lot of pressure. These are my confessions (did you hear the Usher song in the background?)

1.   Will my speech at the wedding be memorable or are you going to think it’s lame and overly sentimental? Let’s face it- when I heard you got engaged I blubbered like a baby out of pride and excitement.( I promise not to tell anyone about any of our wild times or include embarrassing photos in our photo montage.)
 2.  Is it wrong that when you told me you wanted an outdoors/chic/country wedding, I nearly had a panic attack worrying that you’ll ask me to wear cowboy boots and I’ll have to pretend to be excited? Ok… the boots I can take but what if you ask me to wear a hat too? That .Will. Kill. Me- like seriously!
3.       It’s a year away but… what if you turn into a bridezilla? OMG- I’ll be popping Xanax like candy!
4.       Is it wrong that I want to grill your fiancé (while I actually really think he’s a great guy) but still want to put the fear of God into him- that you mean the world to me and if he hurts you…
I. WILL. Hurt. Him.
5.
If I take you to Vegas for your Bachelorette party, the family will rip me a new one for corrupting you and our other cousins… what the heck am I going to do that’s still a blast? If we do a bridal party pin up shoot with RetroDolls, is that creative enough?

6.       While I am so happy for you, I am already sick of the comments our aunts make about the fact that I’m the older one and I’m not married. I also am over the little side quips about “maybe you’ll meet someone at the wedding?” – did we forget that I already have a man-friend?   What if when you select the bridal party dresses, it’s a style that shows my tattoos and I’ll have to actually admit to grandma that I am secretly covered in ink in places I’m not supposed to be?    I’m in New York and you’re in CA, what if I can’t fly home often enough and you think I let you down as the best MOH ever?   I get that you’re “sister in law to be” was being nice by giving you the bridal/wedding planner/organizer but I felt like she was infringing on my MOH duties- I am competitive. I will out do her, all day, every day, and show her what a real MOH does.! (Who dat? Grunt and fist pumping just occurred.)

7.   Lastly,  I realize that you are probably going to play country music during your reception. My “I am enjoying it- this music is great” face is going to be fake. I am so not a country fan but because it’s your big day- I am going to be the best person in the line dance (if you have that…please don’t).

I wonder if her cousin will read this!?  I bet a lot of you out there can relate to her when you’ve been asked to be a maid of honor.  It’s a huge honor but it also comes with a lot of responsibility!  I’ve gotten a few phone calls from the maid of honors of a couple of my brides asking me what exactly are their duties.  I’d list the them here but then you might get overwhelmed.  Check them out here at The Knot.

Again, thanks Audrey!  Sad you’ve moved to NYC but so happy The Bella Bambino is doing great!  If you’re looking for flower girl and/or the cutest little girls’ dresses, you must visit her shop!  Hope everyone has a happy Friday and great weekend!  Can’t believe Thanksgiving is almost here!

Stay tuned for an awesome giveaway next week hosted by the lovely Audrey!

Thanksgiving on Skid Row

Happy Monday everyone!  I wanted to share a little project I’ve always wanted to but never got around to.  This year I’m doing it!  Even this time around, I started a bit late, I’ll take what I can get.  I’ve started a page on Go Fund Me where you can read all the details.

I forgot where I read this tweet, but it talked about America’s new poor being those same people that once donated to food banks.  I thank God I still have food on my plate, am in pretty good heath, and have all the love in the world I can ask for.  In a nutshell, this is what I’ll be doing this Sunday:

“I’m raising money to buy PB J sandwiches, a fruit, and some of sort of drink to hand out the weekend after Thanksgiving to the homeless on skid row.  We’ll be driving all over Downtown LA handing out paper bag lunches to those in need and anything helps!

It’s not a huge event, but I figure as long as we have 500 bags, 500 people will be happy.  I’ve always wanted to do this and although I started late, I have a feeling we’ll get this done!  Every dolla makes a difference!”

Can’t believe in a couple of days, we’ve raised $185!  Friends and family have donated the paper bags and 500 drinks already.  I cannot even explain how happy this makes me.  We also have all the volunteers needed.

We’ll be taking donations up to Friday so you still have time!  Visit our page here and before you go shopping this Black Friday, think about donating even a dollar to help feed someone who is homeless and cold out on the streets of LA.

Inspiration Board :: Cobalt Blue Part II

Here we are again with more cobalt blue inspiration boards.  Such a striking color that goes well with so many colors!

Although I love how clean it pairs with white, I’m totally in love with this next one.

Isn’t it gorgeous!?  After making these and these we talked about last week, our bride decided she was going to stick with the first board we ever made for her which is great!  Sticking with your gut feeling is almost always a great idea.  We’ll share that board next week.

Which has been your favorite so far?

Thanksgiving on Skid Row Recap

So today was the day we made sandwiches and passed them out across the Los Angeles Mission.

I wanted to document the whole event, but once it was time to pass out the bags, it got a little hectic!

We had all kinds of volunteers.  🙂

Thanks again and again to everyone who donated to those who came out to help pack and pass!

Mary Lallande     –     Brandee & Blanca Alfaro
Jennifer Salay      –     Richard Baltazar
The Jeang Fam    –     Patricia Gonzales
Shannon Lee       –     Tami Brown
Matt Lewis          –     Michelle Comparan
Alex Vargas         –     Erika Valdez
Rocio Gamez       –     Susan Avolio
Katrina Centeno   –     Rita Clifton
Isabel Gonzales    –     and the Mister ♥

We definitely made some tummies happy.   I think what I was most afraid of was having someone open the bag and reject it, but there wasn’t any of that except for this one lady who tried selling my husband shoes and then tried to give us ‘advice’.  As we were driving away, one of the guys was eating his sandwich and gave us a thumbs up.  That was enough of a ‘thanks’ for me.

Feel like donating or volunteering with the LA Mission, check them out here.  Hope everyone had an amazing holiday weekend!

The Perfect Bridesmaids’ Gift

I’ve been drooling about some gorgeous ‘Getting Ready’ dresses by Plum Pretty Sugar Loungerie.  They are pretty perfect for your bridesmaids or seriously just for everyday summer {so sad it’s gone} wear.

Aren’t they gorgeous?  I think any bride can wear for her getting ready shots and look pretty fab!  My favorite would have to be these next two.

Hop on over and visit the cute little shop.  They have way more options from longer dresses to robes.  Which is your favorite?

Happy Friday!

So today, we are uberly excited since we’ll be busy with our last wedding of the year.  Even though we’ll be busy throughout the day, I’ll be reminding Wendy that each of us need to make an epic wish at 11:11:11.

… & you all should too. Make it the best wish ever!
Have an amazing weekend everyone!

The Bella Bambino Series II

We have Audrey from The Bella Bambino guest blogging again.  Like I mentioned last week, she gets personal today but I love her bubbly personality and just  how real she gets!

 The Bride Who Cried Marriage

Congratulations! You’re engaged! You want to shout it from the rooftops and sing it from every rafter. You immediately want to book your e-session and get those engagement announcements out ASAP!  Or do you….? This is a great, fun, memorable experience for the first time “to-be married” couples, but is it for those on their “multiple” ones? Here’s my take:

I hate to admit it (no seriously, it took a lot of Bailey’s in this cup of coffee to say this out loud) but I am a “multiple”. I have been engaged 2x. The first time was in my early 20’s (as in still using a fake id early 20’s) and I thought marriage was the next step in our relationship. Wrong. Back Up. Young and Stupid sign flashing here. Yet at the time, I was so excited, we sent out our engagement announcements and poof, a year later we were toast. I finally gathered my ovaries enough to end what we were both avoiding. I tucked the surplus announcements away in a box and moved on.

1 year (to the month) later… Man #2 walks into my life with his charm, wit, and pouty lips and poof! 90days into it, I’m engaged again. Another round of engagement announcements, but this time with: save the dates, buy the house, the works…. This one did not end well. I ended up in bed for a solid month burying myself in tissues, and avoiding human contact. I had to send out the “sorry our wedding will not be taking place- here is your gift back” announcements

Have I mentioned I HATE announcements with a passion by now?

Another box from Engagement #2 tucked away like ghosts haunting me from failed relationships past and I’m over it! My dad now refers to these announcements as my “rookie” cards and jokes that if I get engaged again and walk down the aisle, no one will take me seriously.

So forget the boy who cried wolf, I’m now the bride who cried marriage; stuck w/ engagement announcements and a wedding dress I believe to be cursed! (I have since sold it and shredded all the announcements)

Now when my new “man-friend” asks over romantic dinners” what if we got married”, or “where do you see our relationship going… “ or “are you ever going to start bringing me to family events” I give him the stink eye, and tell him that the only “announcements” in my future are the “We got married” and end of story. I also remind him that I’m no longer keen to bring a poor unsuspecting man around a family that will joke about my “multiple engagement status to his face”.

I suppose it’s not really fair to him and this is a big Sex &The City role reversal- remember when Carrie and Big plan to get married and he’s a 3rd timer?? (fight scene when they argue about the number of guests)Yeah… that’s me, I’m Big, but you can call me Little.

From SATC, Carrie being left at the altar
So while painful, I’ve finally learned my lesson to take my time, and that “announcements” aren’t for me- but I love to see all the cute styled sessions that everyone else does.

Thanks for sharing with us Audrey!  Although difficult experiences, I can see how strong you have become.  Anyone have similar experiences?  I can definitely relate but I believe everything happens for a reason.  🙂
